Since I graduated, I have a broad interest in plant epigenetics. Today, the project of my PhD is to dissect the gene silencing mechanisms that enable dominance at the self-incompatibility (SI) locus in Arabidopsis. SI in the Brassicaceae genus, is controlled by a single locus presenting numerous alleles in natural populations and serve as a crucial barrier to self-fertilization in flowering plants. These alleles are subject to strong dominance relationships that affect the reproductive fitness of each individual. Understanding these mechanisms will offer new insights into how dominance may act.
